Would I be unwise to use a 4lbs line on my 6-10 lbs reel?

I have a Shakepseare Catera reel and am not sure if the 6,8,& 10lbs engravings on the reel mean that I should only use those lbs test lines. Would it be an unwise decision to use a lesser weight? Thank you.
