Do i have a cold or allergies? plz help!?

i have a nasty cough like dry and painful when i cough and lots of mucus in my nose and its kinda yellow is it allergies or a cold i live in michigan and i was mowing the lawn 3 days ago and afterwards my throat satrted hurtin and it doesnt anymore....im going over to my freinds house in like 3hrs and i dont know what meds to take dayquill or allegra?
