What am i doing wrong when i fish?

I am brand new to fishing. I have a spinning reel(diawa or w/e) and a good rod. i have fished in two ponds and caught nothing. went to the savannah river at 6:00 am and stayed till about 12 Pm. Didnt catch a thing. before i go to the lake id like to know whats up? i use a texas rig with a zoom worm. i try to fish in weeds and near underwater cover like all the things i read on the internet. Like iu said im new, aand i will take any suggestions to the water to try. After all, nothing can be worse than what im doing now lol. If you give info on a rig, please tell me exactly what to use and how to use it. I use 8test line btw. Thanks in advance !
